Research Manager – Economics

Our Economics team offers its researchers the opportunity to build one’s network and enhance their knowledge on a range of exciting topics. Candidates are expected to be enthusiastic learners and keep themselves abreast of economic developments in the country and the world. We are looking to hire a Research Manager for a trade project implemented by the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation (GATF). The project seeks to identify and address key bottlenecks that prevent the Port of Colombo from becoming a hub for Multi-Country Consolidation and related value-added logistics services.



Responsibilities include:

  • Managing and coordinating all project activities, and ensuring the high quality of outputs and results
  • Ensuring proper management of funds according to standards and guidelines set by Verité Research and the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation
  • Planning, organising and participating at Technical Consultative Committee meetings and other meetings with stakeholders
  • Monitoring the progress on deliverables and providing feedback to the team as necessary, and coordinating of the work of the consultants and the team
  • Ensuring timely preparation and compilation of the Project Work Plans, Progress Reports and Financial Reports at regular intervals


  • Candidates must hold a degree in Economics, Management, Finance or Logistics, or have a professional qualification (e.g. CILT). Equivalent work experience will also be considered.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills (Sinhala and English)
  • Ability to establish and maintain high-level contacts and good working relationships with counterparts in relevant public and private organisations
  • Good writing skills to prepare regular and ad-hoc reports, documents on program impacts, and briefing papers
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to achieve consensus on policy and administrative matters
  • Ability to work under pressure and produce results
  • Good computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
