Sisira Jayasuriya

Professor Sisira Jayasuriya is a development economist with a focus on economic policy issues in Asia. He is currently a professor of economics at Monash University, Australia and was previously employed by the Australian National University, the International Rice Research Institute (Philippines), Melbourne University and La Trobe University. Prof. Jayasuriya has also worked as a consultant for the Asian Development Bank, the International Food Policy Research Institute, the World Bank, and a number of United Nations organisations, including ESCAP, FAO, and ILO. He holds the titles of Distinguished Fellow at the Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka, Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the National Council of Applied Economic Research in New Delhi, and (Honorary) Professorial Affiliate at the Institute of Social and Economic Studies at Osaka University, Japan. Prof. Jayasuriya holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Ceylon (Peradeniya), and a masters and PhD from the Australian National University.
