In Sri Lanka, the Presidential Election Act sets out the guidelines and procedures to follow in relation to a presidential election. The Act specifies the procedure to follow when calling elections, handing over nomination papers and conducting the election. Recently, released an infographic detailing the process of handing over nomination papers.

Newspapers are required to mention if an advertisement is paid or unpaid. As shown here, some newspapers did not observe this guideline when publishing an advertisement for the NDF presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa.
